4 ways to get inspired, after a writer’s block

get inspired

Writer’s block is a common writing obstacle that often strikes writers or even experienced authors. With so many distractions and pressures, it can be difficult for even the most diligent writer to produce quality content.

Writer’s block can often lead to writer’s burnout, which is when writers are simply struggling too much to continue writing. Sometimes writer’s burnout leads to quitting writing altogether, but other times the writer will look for sources of inspiration and get back to it soon enough.

4 Ways to overcome a writer’s block:

Writer’s block is a situation where an individual or team cannot think of anything to write or create. They feel completely blocked and unable to come up with any ideas. Writer’s block comes in many forms. It can be a writer’s inability to produce content or even an inability to think of ideas.

It may seem like an easy task to find inspiration again but when you are running low on inspiration, it can be difficult to find your flow again. Instead of reaching out to your friends and family members for help, who may get offended if you don’t value their thoughts and contribution you should check out the list of ideas below.

Plus, friends and relatives might not be able to give you the answer that you need sometimes, because they don’t have the same skill set as yourself.

1- Drink a glass of water with a clear empty mind:

The perfect thing to do when you are experiencing writer’s block is to drink a glass of water. This act will help your throat and make it less dry, making it easier for you to start writing again.

When you get too overwhelmed in the process of creating content, the best thing you can do is have a glass of water handy. Not only does it help with dry throat, but it also helps your mind calm down and get back into the flow of writing.

2- Take a break:

Writer’s block is a common problem for writers who are trying to write. It can make the writer feel helpless and frustrated because of the lack of creativity and inspiration. Often times, the only way to overcome writer’s block is for the writer to go outside, and get inspired again by changing scenery.

This is why the best way is taking a break for a day or two, and then returning with fresh ideas and thoughts.

Some people find inspiration during their break through quotes, images, or just by being outside and hearing sounds. However, sometimes you need an external source of inspiration; like a new place, new people or new things to do.

The type of break that you need:

We’re all faced with writers block at some point in our lives. It’s not uncommon for people who are not even writers to feel that they’ve run out of ideas when writing content for their social media posts, or even business content like emails, product ideas or proposals. However, it is possible to generate new ideas if you just take a break from your work and have a little fun!

Everyday should be a new day of possibilities that can spark inspiration. So, the best way to do this is by breaking out of your regular routine and having new experiences. Here are some ideas to help you get started:

– Get outside: Go for a walk, visit your local park and take in all the natural beauty that nature has to offer.

– Read: Reading will always help when you want to get fresh ideas for content or writing projects.

– Take up an activity: If you’re feeling particularly empty or restless, try biking, swimming or picnicking with someone or you can even just go for a walk in a different area.

– Drive somewhere new, park your car and take walks in that area until you find random coffee shops that you’ve never been to before. Pick one of them, go in and order something different you never have tried before.

New experiences like this can be refreshing and help you break your old routine and find new territory to explore, both in the physical world and also in your imagination and mind.

3- Start a new project:

Working on more than one project at once can be confusing and not very practical. However, it’s not always a bad idea when you need to quickly switch gears, change ideas and increase your productivity.

If you’re facing a wall of emptiness or a blank page and just cannot bring yourself to write one more word, then try opening a brand new document on your laptop and starting a brand new novel, story or project.

You can also make it all fun by choosing to write it differently with a different writing style then the one you were stuck on. That’s because sometimes we get inspired to do work a lot differently that what we’re focused on doing in that specific moment in time.

When you start a new project, you have to think about what you’re trying to say and how your audience will react to it. The more complicated your idea gets, the more difficult it becomes for you to keep things simple for your audience. So try not to re-invent the wheel and go with what looks almost too easy and simple at first glance!

4- Let your brain rest:

Sometimes we come up with the best ideas while sleeping or doing a mindless task like washing dishes or walking the dog. In order to avoid writer’s block, don’t force yourself to think too much during these times as it will only lead to frustration and no creativity will be produced.

How about not overthinking or thinking about your work or projects when you do trivial little tasks like this on the daily ? You don’t have to think about anything at all.

For example, when washing your car try to admire the flow of the water, the colour of the metal and fall in love again with it. Try to be grateful for it and happy again like when you were when you first bought it. This will help you focus on the present moment and empty your mind from any stress, while rewiring it positively. It is called practicing mindfulness and you can learn about it here.

Bottom line:

Running out of ideas can be frustrating when trying to come up with something new and interesting. The world of writing can be challenging at times when you run out of ideas. However, sometimes You might even have a great story but no idea how to express it or what angle to take.

The best way to deal with this type of problems and moments of emptiness is to use one of the ways discussed above to relax and to change ideas before trying to get back at it again after a couple of days!
