Dreams are a mysterious thing. Most of the time, they don’t have a logical, rational explanation. They can be full of anticipation and excitement, but they can also be horrible nightmares.

There are many people who don’t believe that you can actually remember your dreams. However, there is scientific proof that all of us do and that we can remember them, if we decide to work on remembering.

3 Ways to remember your dreams:

1- Keep a dream journal:

Most of us have dreams – and we will probably never be able to actually remember them. But with the use of a dream journal, you can record your dreams and recall them later on.

Keeping a diary is a common thing to do, among many people and they have been used for a long time. The idea of journaling was introduced by the Greeks and it has been used in many ways throughout history. There are different forms of diaries, either written or digital, and you can use any combination of them to record anything from your day-to-day life to your dreams.

A dream journal is also a great way to remind yourself about your dreams not just the morning after you had them but after long periods of time have passed and see their progression. Are they getting better or worse ? This could keep you in touch with your state of mind, and how positive or negative your mindset is, in the recent days or weeks?

2- Get a good night sleep:

A good night’s sleep means that you’re gonna be having less night awakenings which will enable you to sleep for longer and have dreams.

3- Try to recall your dream, the moment you wakeup:

If you try to remember what your dream was about last night, 5 hours after you woke up then it’s probably not gonna work because you would’ve connected with the real world and became fully anchored in reality.

Ideally, if you want to remember what your dream was about then try to remember the moment you open your eyes, before you even have time to process where you are, who you are and who you’re sharing your bed with. This way you can still remember your dream before you make a solid connection with reality.

Once you stand up or sit up in your bed, you start looking around you or thinking about your real-life duties and responsibilities which will connect you fully with reality and disconnect you from the world of dreams. This way, you’re less likely to remember anything that was happening to you in the dream.

What do our dreams mean?

A dream is more than a narrative. It is a reflection of your inner self, where you can explore and reflect on your own feelings, life situation and moods. Dreams are often associated with unusual thoughts, or scenarios that we fail to understand but if we think harder and read between the lines, they may relate indirectly to our feelings and events in your life. They can also serve as a way to plan future actions or goals, that you would like to achieve or accomplish.

Dreams have different meanings for different people, which makes them very important to some and not so much to others. They can be an inspiration for change in our lives, while they can also help us to know ourselves better how we feel about where we’re at in life and how fulfilled we are with our current situation.

For instance, a person that lives under constant stress or that is constantly thinking about a childhood trauma they still didn’t move on from, may experience nightmares. If they do, then they’ll know it’s time to work on that problem, their inner thoughts and to optimise their wellbeing.

Dreams can be an important part of a person’s life if they are sweet, beautiful and allow you to wakeup with a happy and positive mindset. However, they can also be one of the most difficult things to remember. There is no point in having a dream if you can’t remember it.

Also, dreams can seem very different from the reality, but in the end they’re probably just a translation of our inner desires and deepest wishes. That’s why it doesn’t hurt to try to remember them and even put them on paper so that you can have a clear picture of your state of mind, and what your subconscious self is busy thinking or worrying about.
