Whether you get home late, after a long day at the office or find yourself craving a quick hot and filling meal, grabbing a microwave dish often seems preferable to ordering another unhealthy, expensive type of food.
However, while many microwave meals may label themselves as healthy or diet-friendly, experts say they often do more harm than good. According to a 2015 study published in The British Journal of Nutrition; there were “surprise adverse health effects” among adult subjects who consumed microwave meals, on a daily basis.
The study researchers found that the consumption of “heat-and-eat” meals, was associated with not only poor overall food quality (including increased fat consumption and decreased fiber intake); but a wide range of surprising health effects.
How does a microwave work?
Microwaves are without a doubt one of the most modern inventions that allow us to heat up conveniently and fast; or prepare our food in a few minutes. Microwaves are very easy to use, they save energy and time, and use less electricity than the gas used for ovens.
Microwaves use a form of electromagnetic energy that include light waves, the same as radio waves. Each microwave has a magnetron, a tube where the radiation is produced, of approximately 2450 Mhz, which interacts with the molecules of food and heat it in this way.
All energy waves in this appliance change polarity from positive to negative in each cycle, millions of times per second.
This molecular friction not only produces heat, but it also harms or damages the amino acids. By transforming them into toxic substances for our health and bodies.

The list of ingredients on the back of a microwavable meal, may not tell the whole story in terms of what you are actually consuming. Or anything at all about what that microwave and its waves will do to your food.
Using electromagnetic radiation, microwaves expose foods and containers in which foods are heated to extreme heat. This superheating can cause the chemical components of the containers surrounding your food to break down and insert little toxic particles in your food. When ingested in small quantities this may not affect you, but they will cause extreme problems over time and with continuous consumption.
Note that among the most concerning of these chemicals is Bisphenol A (BPA). The consumption of which has been linked to a variety of cancers. Just because a microwave meal is low in calories, doesn’t mean it’s good for you. In fact, the copious amounts of salt used to make many microwave meals could contribute to serious health problems down the line.

4- You could be putting yourself at risk for food poisoning:
Although microwaving has been thought of as a way to kill everything from viruses to bacteria, that may not mean you’re on the safe side when it comes to food poisoning. In fact, it’s one of the side effects of microwaving meals that could leave you unwell and very sick for some time.
Microwavable foods require high temperatures, which sometimes for different factors may not distribute equally. This may be because of the way you put it in the microwave or maybe a part of the food was not exposed enough to the waves. Either way, a few parts of your food may not be exposed to a high enough temperature to kill bacteria.

6- You run the risk of overheating your food:
Over heated food, a phenomenon specific to this household appliance. When we put food in a microwave a container and heat it, it can approach boiling temperatures.
