Why does your husband never match what you wear?

why does my husband never match what i wear

Wouldn’t it be nice if your husband made more of an effort to match what you wear? Maybe in your mind, it will be yet another proof of love. It would just show that he’s interested in you and your appearance and that he cares about making you happy.

For these reasons, you think you’d like it a lot if he just obliges but he doesn’t. Unfortunately, it seems like he couldn’t care less. He doesn’t even make an effort to coordinate his own clothes sometimes, let alone match them to yours.

You don’t understand why is that. Is it too much to ask? Well, today we’ll explore a few possible reasons for that and we’ll tell you how to deal with each one.

Reasons why your husband never matches what you wear:

1- He thinks it’s silly and ridiculous:

You may love the idea of having your husband and you coordinate your outfits. You think it’s so cute and fun, and that it will make you feel like a team. However, your husband doesn’t always see eye to eye with you on this.

He thinks it’s silly and ridiculous to match what you two wear. In this case, you might want to believe that he’s just not as into fashion as you are. But that’s okay, If the issue is so small as to have him think it’s childish and uncalled for then we’re pretty sure you can easily convince him to try it at least once.

Maybe, when he tries it, and even though he may never admit it, he will secretly like it too. However, if he becomes very stubborn about it and categorically refuses to even try then there must be more to it, so read on and see other possible reasons for this behavior.

2- He doesn’t want to look weak in front of others:

You might think your husband is way off base when he doesn’t match what you’re wearing, but maybe he just doesn’t want to look like he’s following your lead. Maybe his macho side will feel humiliated by his friends or relatives if they started laughing and making jokes about how you dress him the way you want.

Maybe he’s scared that it will make him feel like a little pet of yours, that you dress the way you want, and that you do whatever you please. If this is the reason for his reluctance then it will be hard to have him admit it to you, but you can try correcting the backward and traditional ideas that he has. Tell him that it will merely prove that the woman is the one who sets the fashion tone in a relationship.

But, it will not necessarily imply that you’re the boss and that all your husband does is follow your lead in everything. It can be understood that he’s not going to want to look weak and controlled in front of others, so he’s probably not going to be too thrilled about matching your every outfit.

But if you want him to, all you have to do is give him a little reassurance about how this is only about fashion or love and not about power. Let him know what colors and styles you like on you, after all, he will want to please the woman he married and look good for her, we hope. Once he starts doing that, he’ll start trusting you with what to wear and in no time he’ll be dressing just like you.

3- He just never considered it or thought of it:

When it comes to fashion, your husband is probably not the first person who comes to mind. He’s never been one to think about what he wears, and he wouldn’t mind if he never had to go shopping for clothes. As far as he’s concerned, as long as his clothes are clean and presentable, that’s all that matters.

If this description fits your husband then it may be why he never thought of matching your outfits. He just doesn’t want to spend his time overthinking his outfit and matching every little detail to yours.

Maybe, you know that there’s more to fashion than just being clean and presentable. Perhaps, to you, fashion is about expressing your individuality and feeling confident in your appearance. And so it will be hard to please you even if he tried to match your outfit and hence he never dared give it a try.

Clearly, he doesn’t think it matters so much to you. Otherwise, he would’ve probably still put himself through the torture of trying, if he knew. So if this is the reason why he never did, then try helping him find what to wear and organizing his outfit for him when he’s trying to match your clothes. This will take a big burden off of his shoulders and he’ll be happy to do it for you.

in fact, it would be nice if he made a little more effort to coordinate with your outfits, despite being someone who doesn’t care much about these things. After all, relationships are about communication, and matching outfits is one way to share a silent closeness with your husband.

4- He doesn’t want everyone to stare:

Maybe your husband would rather blend in and be comfortable than stand out and risk looking like a show-off. And, if that’s his personality type then he just doesn’t want to start putting a lot of effort into what he wears.

That’s not to say he doesn’t care about his appearance. He just prefers to keep things low-key. Maybe, you think it’s one of the things you love most about him: He’s not afraid to be himself, even if it means going against the grain. Isn’t that cute and precious?

If that’s the case, let him be comfortable and wear what he wants. You can make a secret effort from your end to discreetly match the color of the shirt he chose, without telling him.

If he’s a reserved person or an introvert, maybe he’s also not interested in doing things like this that might be considered close to a public display of affection. Maybe he’s not very comfortable with being the center of attention or having everyone notice and stare at the two of you when you’re out and about.

5- You don’t give him enough time to plan the outfit to match yours:

You’ve just stepped out of the shower, wrapped a towel around your wet hair, and walked into the bedroom to find your husband already getting dressed for the day. As you look at his clothes, you can’t help but notice that they don’t match what you’re wearing.

Again, you make an attempt to make him change or select another outfit that will match yours more but in vain. If this scenario happened before, then maybe you just don’t give your husband enough time to select or look for an outfit that matches yours.

What you can do, if this is the reason you can’t get him to match your clothes, is to make an extra effort to tell him in advance about what you’ll be wearing. Maybe, try to make sure to lay out your clothes the night before so that he sees what you’ll be wearing and also you won’t be rushed in the morning.
